How We Grew an Ecommerce Growth Agency’s Organic Traffic by Over 1,500%

Happy young people in mountain

Between July 2024 and January 2026, this client’s organic traffic grew by more than 1,500%.

Eighteen months. No shortcuts, no black-hat tricks. Just consistent work, done properly. Here’s what actually happened – including the parts that weren’t smooth.

Where they started

This client is a growth acceleration agency for Amazon and Shopify sellers – the kind of company that helps other brands get their products seen and sold, through listing optimization, PPC management, and CRO-focused design.

That’s a crowded, competitive space to rank in. Everyone selling “Amazon PPC management” or “Shopify SEO” is fighting for the same handful of terms.

When we started, the site had almost no topical foundation to compete with that. A handful of thin service pages. No real internal linking strategy. Content that named the services without actually building authority around them.

In 12 years of doing this, I’ve seen a lot of sites in this exact spot. It’s not a bad sign. It just means the work hasn’t started yet.

What we actually did

Three things, mainly.

Content. We built out content around the specific services this agency offers – Amazon listing optimization, PPC management, A+ content writing, Shopify migration, Shopify CRO, and platform-specific SEO for Shopify, BigCommerce, Magento, and WooCommerce. Not filler. Not keyword-stuffed junk. Pages built to answer a question and hold their ground against bigger competitors.

Backlinks. We ran a steady backlink program. Not a burst-and-disappear campaign – a consistent drip of relevant, earned links over the full 18 months. That’s what compounded their authority over time, not a one-time push.

Service pages. We redesigned their service pages from the ground up – structure, copy, and internal linking all rebuilt so each service page supported the others instead of sitting off on its own.

The traffic curve

The growth wasn’t a straight line, and I want to be upfront about that.

Traffic grew slowly through most of 2025 – roughly doubling off a small base, then plateauing for stretches. That’s normal. SEO compounds; it doesn’t spike on command.

The real jump came in the back half of 2025, once the content library hit critical mass and the backlink profile matured. That’s when growth accelerated sharply, closing out at more than a 1,500% increase in organic traffic year over year by January 2026.

Keyword visibility followed the same curve. By the end of the engagement, the number of keywords ranking anywhere in the top 100 had grown several times over from where it started, with a meaningfully larger share sitting in the top 10. That’s the kind of spread you want – not a handful of lucky rankings carrying the whole site.

The part that wasn’t easy

Here’s the honest bit.

We didn’t just work with the client’s marketing team. We were coordinating with another internal team on their side too – and that coordination was, plainly, a challenge.

Content briefs would get revised after the fact. Design decisions on the service pages sometimes went in a different direction than what we’d agreed on. It slowed things down more than once.

I’ll say this plainly: SEO results depend on more than the SEO team. They depend on how well the client’s internal teams talk to each other, and to you. When that alignment isn’t there, growth still happens – it just takes longer than it should.

What I’d tell another business in this position

A few things, if you’re looking at a similar starting point:

  1. Don’t expect a straight line. Compounding growth looks flat for a while, then it doesn’t.
  2. Backlinks are a long game. One good month of link building won’t move an authority score. Eighteen months will.
  3. Fix your internal communication before you fix your SEO. No amount of good content survives a broken feedback loop between teams.
  4. Service pages matter more than people think. They’re not just conversion pages – they’re internal linking hubs that hold the rest of your site together.

This client grew organic traffic by over 1,500% because the fundamentals were done right, consistently, for a year and a half. Not because of one clever trick.

Save this if you’re planning your next content calendar and wondering whether the slow stretch is normal. It is.
